Beating the YEG Winter Blues

April 3, 2018

The winter, seeming to drag on, has all of us wishing for Spring to arrive already, while the forecast keeps dashing our hopes. We are a resilient people, not only surviving, but thriving, amidst very dark, long and cold winters, but the recent time change and longer periods of sunlight has given our city a new energy. People are abuzz with thoughts of greenery, colour and the overall magic of being able to leave the house unencumbered by large down jackets and tall winter boots. As we all cheer Spring on, we thought it would be a good time to highlight some of our favourite warmer weather items and activities to keep you feeling that springtime joy (even if we do get another sprinkling of snow).

If you haven’t been to RAAS in a couple months, now is the perfect time to stop in and check out Prive Revaux Canada. Prive Revaux was built on a shared passion for style and quality with the goal of making it accessible in ways never seen until now. Their affordable, designer sunglasses are handcrafted and polarized. We love their variety and fashion-forward glasses so much we can’t seem to pick just one - and with such an affordable price tag, we don’t have to!

Now armed with stylish sunglasses, the one thing you’re missing is a backpack for all of your outdoor adventures. We are so drawn to the Flightpack by Apollo Originals. The bold, bright design of this pack is complemented by thick straps for heavy loads, an inner lining and a water bottle holder (hello matching Lamose!) to keep you hydrated as you walk, bike or run around our beautiful river valley.

And speaking of the river valley - we are itching to get back down there! While Spring slowly thaws the last of our winter ice, it’s a wonderful time to head down to the Muttart Conservatory to enjoy their luscious greenery. As an accredited museum, the Muttart Conservatory preserves and grows one of Canada’s largest botanical collections, and shares knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors. We don’t need much convincing to spend a few hours in their tropical or arid pyramids; the warm, humid environments are a whole new form of self-care for any Edmontonians that are feeling particularly over the cold, dry winter. Perhaps the botanicals inside the Muttart have left you longing for the florals of Spring, and while it might take a couple months yet for planting flowers, you can fill that yearning with the beautiful line of clothing carried at OurParkShop called Gypsy Soul Designs. Gypsy Soul is a luxury label featuring signature prints, clean lines, beautiful movement, fit and femininity. We love their bold colours and patterns - specifically we are drawn to their Paradise City Pant that emulates exactly what we want in a Spring wardrobe.

Lastly, we’re all greatly over-due for a tropical beach vacation. As you scroll through your Instagram feed looking at pictures of people on pristine beaches with golden tans, maybe your feeling really ready for summer. We hear you. One of our favourite parts of spending our time in the West Edmonton Mall is having the opportunity dive in head first and unwind at the water park. An afternoon spend here playing in the waves, reliving your childhood down the twisting water slides or simply lounging on a beach chair with a good book may help ease the feeling of missing out on a vacation down south and get you excited for the summer days to come.
